Abstract

|
The osmolality of 34 serum samples wave measured and compared with the osmolalities calculated from the serum concentrations ( mmol/L ) of sodium, potassium, glucose and urea by different formulae.
The most accurate formulae was following equation
Osmolality = 2 Na + BUN/ 2.8
It was suggested tuat each laboratory sought to obtain own accurate formulae because of being different from each other in methodology and apparatus.
